City Council approves 'Loose Goose' development

In a 6-3 vote, Springfield's city council green lit a 'Loose Goose' on the Grant Avenue Parkway — overriding concerns the development would not fit in with larger pedestrian friendly plans.

At the corner of Grant and Grand streets, the Loose Goose development will include drive-thru coffee shop, food trucks, yard games with green space, an outdoor walk-up bar and six pickleball courts.

At their Monday night meeting, a majority of council members approved the project despite city staff's opposition. Councilpersons Monica Horton, Craig Hosmer and Mike Schilling voted against the project.

Before the vote, city manager Jason Gage said he was in opposition to the plan based on its incompatibility with the Grant Avenue Parkway plan, which prohibits drive-thru businesses. But he stressed council had the right to override the plan if they felt it was insufficient to the the success of the GAP plan.
